My Favorite Trailers
One of my favorite things about films is watching trailers for films especially the teaser trailers that help to give a feeling and vibe of what the film is going to be and sometimes that’s exciting in and of itself. While I could name a number of examples of trailers that I love I don’t want to bore you all too much and I don’t want us to be here all god damn day so with that being said I’m going to focus on a small number of trailers that I’ve seen through out the years that have made an impression on me and are some that I still think about on a regular basis. With all that out of the way let’s get started in no real order.
TENET
Like all of Christopher Nolans movies there is an air of mystery in them even in the trailers and Tenet is no exception to that all this might be the one that has the most intrigue with it as this first trailer gives no really idea of what the story is going to be you do get the sense that at least from the trailer the film will be and is an intense ride and takes some unexpected turns along the way.
MAD MAX FURY ROAD
This one makes me feel a bit old now as I remember being a sixteen year old watching this in theatres which is still one of my favorite memories regarding movies and the trailer shares that sentimentality for me. It’s just chaos on an epic scale the likes of which we hadn’t really seem from the world of Mad Max and to be able to go back to that story and world with scale we hadn’t seen before was truly something special.
THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES
Now, I don’t recall every really talking about this film which I’ll have to fix that at somepoint it’s one of my favorite movies ever, It was one of the first films I saw going in knowing that it was an Indie film and to see the level of quality that could go into an independent film just floored my 14 year old mind. It’s a film that really lives up to the old quote of The sons of the father will be visited upon the son. It’s a really special movie to me.
AKIRA
So this may technically count as a bit of a cheat as it’s technically the trailer for the 25th anniversary for Akira but it’s my favorite trailer for it, you have no idea what it’s about if you’ve never seen it before but it’s still a visual marvel to sit and watch just this trailer for it let alone the movie speaking of which I need to rewatch Akira it’s been a while.
DOCTOR SLEEP
This one has soft spot for me, I love the work of Mike Flannagan the man does not miss regardless of whatever story he is telling in my opinion the man can do no wrong as far as that is concerned. Combine that with a story from Stephen King that serves as a follow up to what many consider to be one of the most terrifying novels and movies ever made The Shining is a dangerous combination and for me it paid off.
THE BATMAN
This floored me when it first dropped and it still floors me to this day I did not expect what this trailer and film had in store when it came out, a hard boiled detective thriller harkening back to films like Seven, and Zodiac as well as some of the older and modern batman stories that take a dive into his pyschology and why Bruce feels he has to be Batman it’s just ……it’s just so good man!!
ALIEN
Look, I’m gonna be honest this is my favorite trailer of all time nothing else really comes close to this and if I’m being really honest this trailer is the reason I made this trailer in the first place. this is everything a trailer should be for me it just gives you the feel and the vibe of the overall film, It doesn’t tell you jack shit about the story or the movie really it just builds in intensity and reaches a fever pitch that results in chaos and horror just an absolute perfect trailer for a perfect film.
If you’ve made it this far, Thank You for reading all of this I really appreciate it and please tell me what your favorite trailers are if you have any.
-Zach.
