Analog Horror
This has been a topic that has become more and more interesting to me as time as gone and is something of a rabbit hole that I fell into probably a couple years ago now and never really found my way out of it. Analog horror for those that don’t know is a genre of horror online told through either videos or photos and usually through the filter of something in the past and or footage the viewer found and watching. it’s very similar to that of the found footage genre but I find to be more engaging and effective at times depending on what is being explored in the story and its something that seems to be becoming more and more mainstream especially with the release of the film Skinamarink a couple of years ago. Now it definitely seems to be a genre that is not for everyone as there are somethings in this that some may not find to be scary at all and some that some may find to be absolutely terrifying but ultimately that’s the beautiful thing about art and story is it’s subjective-ness and what different things people can get out of it. That being said I just want to take the time out and discuss some of the ones that I’m watching right now and the ones that I find to be interesting, that also being said there maybe somethings and topics in these videos and different series that some may find to be disturbing so I would say viewers discretion is advised in that sense. As I talk about each series I will be posting the links to each series in case anyone wants to watch any of them.
The Monument Mythos/Nixonverse
Now with each of these series I don’t want to get to into the weeds on each of them as that takes away from the fun of it but the best way I can describe it as a sprawling epic world where all of the monuments of america are actually monsters and eldritch type horrors and it goes in a direction that I did not expect and is worth checking out.
The Mandela Catalog
The Mandela Catalog has to do with a concept that absolutely terrifies me and that being doppelgangers. Something that looks like you and tries to act like you and replaces you and at a certain points takes an almost biblical angle that almost turns the whole thing on its head. While some of the effects may not be that scary to some, the way the effects are done combined with the story of it, at times it was able to get to me.
Greylock
Greylock deals with a device that allows your dreams to become reality this also happens to includes nightmares that get loose in the real world and beginning attack the locals of a small town. as time goes on it becomes clear that more nefarious is at work as well as something……ancient.
Doors
This one I’m not going to talk about really I’ll only say doors to other worlds and more doppelgangers.
The Man in the Suit
This one takes an interesting turn as it deals with a man in a godzilla suit during the filming of the original godzilla films by toho and goes in a body horror eldritch horror type angle and I’m curious to see where it goes.
The Blue Boy Scout Turned God
This last one is very interesting and could in a really interesting angle, it deals with Superman essentially being corrupted by humanity and the nature of humanity and decides to take a more proactive approach in “saving” mankind. There even is a cult that has been formed that view Superman as a god in this world, Now it’s unknown whether this will become a series or is a one off either way it’s an interesting angle i hope to see it become a series just to see where the creator will go with the concept. They also have a teaser trailer on their channel of a Flash analog horror video which may end up happening hopefully it does but only time will tell.
Granted there are so many different series of analog horror and there will be more no doubt but these are just a few I’m circling and is very interested in. if you’ve made it this far and have checked these out or you are also a fan of this genre let me know what you think and potentially what series your watching.
Until next time I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon.
